[break][break]The humidity of the Crossroads always bothered Locke when she went, but today’s task demanded that she suffers through it. Locke believed that Yvel needed compensation for what she did, saving her life. Outside of serving her, Locke guessed that she was now a part of the family. She didn’t know how yet to speak her new mother. Though her father always taught her that sometimes words were not needed to make the first step. Maybe Yvel would understand Locke’s feelings if she did this, or maybe it would go horribly. The girl wasn’t sure but there was no point in being apprehensive.
[break][break]All she hoped was that Yvel liked apples.
[break][break]Browsing through a homegrown fruit stand, Locke didn’t notice how off-kilter her appearance was. Garbed in clothing too expensive, she was the fixation of many travelers. Some of them had just arrived and they couldn’t resist taking a peek at the young female. Her senses hadn’t honed enough to detect the questioning gazes of the public, nor was she subtle enough to hide her turning glances.
[break][break]“Are those sufficient?” the shop owner asked, capturing Locke’s attention. Nervously, Locke looked around to the apples, the shop keeper, and back to the apples.
[break][break]Locke started collecting apples to her basket and scrambling for whatever currency she had. She flinched soon after when she felt more money than she ever had before. Did Yvel give her that much, she pondered. Without much thought to the pricing, she handed the shopkeep money. He didn’t necessarily know how to handle as much as she gave him, but it was enough to make him smile widely at the supposed generosity. “Thank you very much, miss!”
[break][break]The young woman almost ran away to stave off the continued awkwardness. As she did, she relaxed on a nearby wall before checking the coin purse she had. “This is more than anything Father had,” she mumbled.
